Issues in Education: How Much Do Voters Know?

Here is the link to the prompt.

My survey results show that no one around me knows Who the U.S. Secretary of Education is, and the priority initiatives with the current Secretary of Education. The level of knowledge about the priority initiatives with the current Secretary of Education is very low. The people that I surveyed are not up to date with the U.S. Secretary of Education.

I think to update voters of all the different issues we could take action by talking about them more during class so people can understand and they can tell others so more action can take place. We could also start posting more about all the issues to get more people to take action as well.

Here is a link to a website about issues in education.

It's All About Me - How I Best Learn!

All About Me

Here is the prompt reference link

As an auditory-tactile learner I learn best in hands-on activities. Being able to touch things and having physical activity is how I learn best. In US history, I learn best in that class because we are either doing a galley walk or we are doing something that involves small pieces of paper that has a bunch of information on it that we will all touch and pass around the room. And as an auditory learner I can learn just by hearing a teacher talk a and give a lecture.

My multiple intelligences are Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Bodily Kinesthetic. For Intrapersonal, I learn best by concentrating my mind. I learn best by being focused. For Interpersonal, I learn best by working in groups. Finally, for Bodily kinesthetic, I work best with a mind-body connection. For bodily kinesthetic I would learn best with hand movements to remember things.

To find out your multiple intelligences are take this quiz.

My Hemispheric Preference is Global. I like working with others, rewards/verbal praise, and also humor, stories. I often ask questions such as: "Why are we doing this?" and "Why does it really matter?". I will also say things like: "I need a break!", "I'll do it later.", and "I'll come back to this later.
Global people have the characteristics of:

  • let's others go first
  • likes humor, stories
  • sees relationships
  • likes team competitions
  • likes working with others

My True Color is blue.  Some characteristic that make me Blue are:

  • nurturing                                    Here is a link to read more about the blue color.
  • emotional
  • empathetic
  • imaginative
  • inspirational
  • compromising
  • spirited
  • compassionate
  • loving
  • stubborn
When a blue has a bad day they will withdraw from the rest of the day. They will also start to day-dream, and go into a trance.

My Biggest Challenges as a Future Teacher

Future as a teacher
Here is the reference link to the prompt
The two biggest hurdles or challenges i feel that i will encounter as a future teacher is having to discipline the children and feeing overwhelmed with having a lot of children in my class at one time. Having a large class can effect a students learning by not being able to focus when the class gets too loud.
Disciplining the children when they are acting up will teach them to respect me as a teacher and it will also teach them to respect their parents as well. Having a large classroom with a lot of students will get really loud and it will be hard to teach them if some may have a harder time in class than others. For discipline i can be firm and show them that just because I'm a girl doesn't mean that i can discipline them and i am strong. For having a big classroom full of students i can schedule tutorials for those who may fall behind in learning and i can get the students to work together to help bring each other up.

Early History of Education in America

November 30, 2016

Reference link to prompt

A. One-room schoolhouses with a single teacher responsible for all grades developed in rural areas with limited population.  A few of these schools still exist.  If you were teaching in such a school now, how could technology help you manage to teach students at so many different levels.

If i was  teaching in  such a school now, technology could help me and the students because we would have laptops or smart phones that would help us access the internet to find different websites that could teach different grades different things. People make websites that allow children to learn different things online. I would have the students use a laptop and depending on their grade is what they would go look up and learn. Then it would also be followed by a discussion and activities to go along with what they learned.

The Water is Wide Reflection

Wide Reflection
  1. In what ways has education changed since the 1960s?                                     Education has changed in different ways.Teachers no longer hit the children with a paddle. And the teachers now have alot of more rules.
  2. In what ways has it stayed the same since the 1960s?                                 There are still rules the teachers and students have to follow.
  3. Describe a teacher you know or knew who is or was very conventional and is or was tied to doing things the way they have or always had been done. (Do not use real names.) I had an english teacher for two years in a row and she would always tell us how she gave out vocab tests the same way for years. Both years it wasnt a good system because the tests were hard but she kept going with it.
  4. Describe three ways that Mr. Conroy inspired his children to learn that were unconventional. He let them sing and run around and he taught class while they were in a tree.
  5. How did he get the community to support the school? He showed them how well they learned with his teaching system and encouraged them to keep teaching the way that he taught.
  6. What roadblocks did he encounter with
    1. the children? The children didnt know how to write and they didnt learn much with the other teacher before Mr. Conroy.
    2. his coworker? The coworker wanted Mr. Conroy to follow the rules and do everything by the book.
    3. the community? The parents and community were not involved with the students education.
  7. What attributes did Mr. Conroy have that were characteristics found in most effective teachers? (List at least 5 and explain with example from the movie.) Mr. Conroy was very outgoing, he wasn't afraid to allow the children to get to know him. He was very observant he noticed one child was partially deaf by paying attention to the way he watched him watch him talk. He was very loving of his students he even invited them to his wedding. Mr.Conroy was respectful of the rules. He tried to push them a little bit but not so much in a way to get in alot of trouble. Mr. Conroy was also caring about the children's education so much that he even took them on a field trip to show them someone went to the moon.
  8. What idea/thought do you carry away from this movie that you will apply to your future career? I will carry away that i will need to interact with the students parents and see which ways the kids learn best and pay attention to each child individually when necessary.

being a leader

The leader in me

Leadership observed
An affective teacher and a good teacher are similar because they both require leadership. They both have to get people to want to listen to them. They use the leadership skill in gathering the people together and getting them to do things or listen to what they have to say. A teacher has to take control of the class room and make the rules or everything will be chaos. A leader needs to show who is in charge and has to be someone they can count on. My english teacher last year would work till everyone in the class understood the subject matter because he cared about our own individual learning and us as individuals also.

My leadership in action
I will become more of a leader by improving my leadership skills by becoming more outgoing so that way people will want to listen to me and follow in my footsteps. I am involved in Birdville High School Lady Hawks Soccer. On the soccer field is where i learn how to be a leader to the knew freshman who come play soccer. I help push the new freshman to get back into shape and for them to work really hard in the weight room and on the field.
